APMA Out and About College Visits APMA continued its visits to the colleges of podiatric medicine this spring. Matthew Garoufalis, DPM, APMA vice president, visited the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science along with Luke Kovatch, DPM, who is completing his fellowship in Louisville, KY. Drs. Garoufalis and Kovatch spoke with first- and second-year students about APMA, clerkships, and residencies. Dr. Garoufalis also represented APMA at the Midwest Podiatry Conference, participating as a judge in the 14th Annual International Post Graduate Research Symposium. Dr. Garoufalis judged 20 postgraduate research projects from 18 residents/fellows. n Need CME Credits APMA members requiring CME credits can find them for free on the APMA website. Legislative Women’s Caucus APMA Trustee Phillip Ward, DPM, attended the South Carolina Legislative Women’s Caucus Luncheon this spring. Dr. Ward had the opportunity to meet with South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley (R). He discussed the podiatry bill in the South Carolina state legislature with Governor Haley and with the chair of the committee and subcommittee with jurisdiction over the bill. The South Carolina Podiatric Medical Association was a sponsor of the luncheon. n The Recognition Award for Online CME Programs was established to provide APMA members with a convenient, high-quality, effective way of obtaining continuing education contact hours. The review committee for the program establishes that all approved courses comply with the regulations of the Council on Podiatric Medical Education and fulfill the educational needs of APMA members. The following courses are approved by APMA for one continuing education contact hour per course unless otherwise noted: eMedtrain Worthy of Note APMA Past President Authors Book Chapter APMA Past President Arthur Helfand, DPM, has authored a chapter titled “Foot Problems in the Elderly,” which will appear in the fifth edition of Pathy’s Principles and Practice of Geriatric Medicine. Dr. Helfand coauthored the chapter with Donald F . Jessett of Wales. Dr. Helfand said he is “delighted our profession will be represented” in this important volume. “We hope that when this text is published, it will enhance the podiatric care provided to our aging population,” he concluded.
