Report from the APMAPAC Chair By Gerald D. Peterson, DPM Catch Election Fever We have just completed our annual Legislative Conference, and our message has been heard loud and clear on Capitol Hill: We need a fi x for the sustainable growth rate (SGR) and a permanent, well-structured solution. Kicking it down the road will only cost more and delay the inevitable. Title XIX is still a priority and must be passed to ensure all Americans have access to the high-quality foot care provided by podiatrists. It was very impressive to see your APMAPAC coordinators, many state presidents, executive directors, and members of the APMA Board of Trustees visiting the US House and Senate offices carrying the podiatric mantra with one unified voice. We anticipate an excellent outcome, with many new cosponsors signing onto our legislation due to the efforts of your APMA, APMAPAC, and state representatives. Election fever is definitely in the air, and party posturing is evident in the daily news. We will be electing new members of Congress and re-electing others in both parties. You have an opportunity to participate in this process beyond just your vote. Contributing to APMAPAC allows APMA to support members of Congress across the country, not just in your state, who support our issues and our profession. APMAPAC support of candidates for election is based on many things, including a history of support of podiatric issues, state component endorsements, committee positions, and leadership positions, as well as other criteria. APMAPAC supports candidates from all parties based on these criteria to achieve the maximum outcome for your contribution dollar. Please send a contribution to APMAPAC today to help us elect supporters of podiatric medicine. This year is APMA’s 100th Anniversary, and APMAPAC is in the centennial spirit. We want 100 new contributors to APMAPAC each month, 100 percent participation, and a minimum suggested contribution of $100*, bringing together 100 x 100 x 100 to reach our $1,000,000 goal. We can do it if you step up and help us rally the troops to support APMAPAC and contribute. Do it today, and get a couple of your colleagues to join you in support of APMAPAC. Send your donations to: APMAPAC 9312 Old Georgetown Road Bethesda, MD 20814 Donate online at www.apma.org/PACDonate. Working together for our common interests, there is nothing we can’t accomplish. Please support APMAPAC, and do it today! n What does Glenn say? Glenn Gastwirth, DPM, executive director and CEO of APMA, has a blog! Contact Dr. Peterson at pac@apma.org. PURPOSE: The American Podiatric Medical Association Political Action Committee’s purpose is to raise and disburse funds to candidates for federal office who support the legislative priorities and goals of the podiatric medical profession. *IMPORTANT: These are suggested amounts. You may contribute more, less, or not contribute without concern of being favored or disadvantaged. Occupation/employer information is required for aggregate annual contributions of more than $200.00 by the Federal Election Campaign Act. Federal election law does not permit corporate contributions to be used for donation to candidates for federal office. Political contributions are not deductible for income tax purposes. 44 APMA News April 2012 http://www.apma.org/Donate/vocus.cfm http://www.apmaceoforum.com
