Afﬁliates Corner ACFAOM’s Updated Orthotics Guidelines Now Available The popular Prescription Custom Foot Orthoses Practice Guidelines were developed by the American College of Foot & Ankle Orthopedics & Medicine (ACFAOM) in response to the need for better deﬁnitions and indications for prescription custom foot orthotics. This document has been updated again and is now available to all members free on the members’ area of www.acfaom.org, and to non-members for a nominal price. Originally published in 2001 and updated in 2004 and 2006, this 40-page document is a deﬁnitive guideline for applying custom orthotics to a variety of lower-extremity conditions. For each condition, a statement of therapeutic efﬁcacy is provided to help practitioners recognize when prescription custom foot orthotics should and can be used as part of a treatment plan based on more than 200 references. The editor, ACFAOM Board Member Michael Robinson, DPM, MPH, JD, commented, “This latest edition continues the usefulness of these practice guidelines that were created by ACFAOM almost a decade ago for a very important aspect of podiatric care. I appreciate the work of my committee colleagues, Drs. Beth Jarrett, Robert Marcus, and Rosemay Michel.
