On the Road with APMA Follow APMA Leadership as They Travel the US Working for You In February, APMA leadership traveled from Florida to Ohio and California to Washington, DC, representing podiatric medicine. RUC and CPT Meetings In late January, Seth Rubenstein, DPM, participated in a RUC meeting in Tampa, FL, and Phillip Ward, DPM, and Ira Kraus, DPM, participated in a CPT meeting also in Tampa. They advocated for the inclusion of codes for services our members perform, as well as the appropriate values for these services, and interacted with specialties with which APMA has common interests. Young Physician Strategic Planning Retreat Meeting with SVS Leadership The APMA Executive Committee met with Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) Vice President Peter Lawrence, MD, and President Peter Gloviczki, MD, on February 13. They discussed additional ways APMA and SVS could collaborate, including joint health policy and legislative initiatives, enhanced educational collaboration, and development of podiatric residency programs within hospitals’ vascular surgery departments. 48 APMA News April 2013 The board arrived in Washington, DC, on February 14 for a day of Capitol Hill visits. Business conducted included approval of the preliminary program for the 2013 Annual Scientific Meeting (The National); faculty, committee, and liaison appointments for fiscal year 2013–14; and approval of the FY 2013–14 budget. College Visits APMA leadership participated in podiatric medical school visits in January and February to educate students about the importance of APMA membership. A young physician also attended each visit to explain the clerkship and residency process to students. In February, Dr. Kraus and Sahani Howie, DPM, visited the New York College of Podiatric Medicine; Drs. Rubenstein and Salvo visited Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine; Dr. Ward and Sara Oelke, DPM, visited Des Moines University College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery; and Daniel Davis, DPM, and Kittra Owens, DPM, visited Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine. n Business travel illustration ©istockphoto.com/Jeremiah Simpson.
