Report from the APMAPAC Chair By Barney A. Greenberg, DPM Team APMAPAC=Commitment + Meaningful Donation + Political Action The year is more than half over, and I am pleased to report that Team APMAPAC is stronger than it was last year. However, we still need support from APMA members because we are not strong enough! Although contributions have increased over previous years, we have only attained, abysmally, less than 20-percent participation from membership—fewer than one in five members has contributed so far in 2013. APMA staff has already done the work; all you have to do is push the button. This year’s goals for APMAPAC are to raise more dollars to support candidates for federal office and to increase political action among APMA’s membership. These goals are attainable, but we need all members to take ownership of our profession and become politically active. 32 APMA News July/August 2013 The APMA Annual Scientific Meeting (The National) just took place in July, and your APMAPAC Executive Committee worked at the event to encourage meaningful donations from APMA’s members. The committee also served as a resource, showing members how to become politically active. It is with great pride that I share with you the announcement that Lee Rogers, DPM, from California, is again running for the US House of Representatives. APMAPAC hosted a fundraiser at The National to support this quest to elect our second podiatrist to Congress. We are in an exciting but uncertain time as health-care reform starts to change our practices. Now is not the time to hide our heads in the sand and hope someone else will watch out for us.
