In Short APMA to Review ACOEM Occupational Medical Practice Guidelines The American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM) is conducting an update of ACOEM Occupational Medicine Practice Guidelines, its evidence-based clinical guidelines for work-related disorders. The college has invited APMA to review the revised guidelines relevant to podiatric medicine as they are developed. The intent is to provide useful practice guidelines that are based on science and sound medical practices and take into account input from specialists who work with occupationally injured patients. The guidelines cover general evaluation and treatment of the injured patient, but also include chapters devoted to specific parts of the body, including the foot and ankle. ACOEM has developed guidelines since 1997. APMA will review updates to the third edition, which is undergoing revisions over the next five years. The profession is actively working to create resources and options for those students.
