Report from the APMAPAC Chair

2017 Political Victories
Wow! Last year was incredible for our profession politically. We again witnessed the introduction of two bills before
Congress: the VA Provider Equity Act (HR 1058/S 1871) and
the Helping Ensure Life- and Limb-Saving Access to Podiatric
Physicians (HELLPP) Act (HR 1542/S 1533). Members of our
association testified before the US House Veterans Affairs Subcommittee on Health on May 2, 2017, and the House passed
the bill on July 24, 2017. On November 29, 2017, before the
US Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs, Senator Bill Cassidy
(R-LA) offered our bill as an amendment to the Caring for our
Veterans Act of 2017. Our primary sponsors in the Senate now
plan to include the bill in an omnibus VA bill for consideration
this winter. The HELLPP Act has considerable cosponsorship
support, and we are looking forward to working with Congress to address and pass this legislation in 2018.

of APMAPAC is crucial to our

to be part of the team.
Our small profession-12,000 members strong-is able to
move legislation into position to be passed by Congress and
signed by the president. This achievement is truly amazing, but
it can only get better if all APMA members support political action by making a meaningful donation to APMAPAC this year.
Remember that 2018 is an election year, and your support of
APMAPAC is crucial to our success on your behalf. We need 100
percent of our members to be part of the team. There are many
friends in the US House and Senate who need our support to
continue our push for total parity in the health-care system.
No one likes being asked for a donation. But it is necessary for us to believe in our profession to make it better for the
future. By investing in your profession, you are investing in your
future livelihood.
Campaign 2018 has just begun. We want to surpass all
previous years by raising $1 million this year to propel our
profession forward.
I am recommending that you consider giving $30 for every
year you have been in practice. And it would be great if you

could donate more! But we want everyone to be a part of the
team. We offer recurring billing options to make it easier to give
a set amount each month rather than one single donation. Please
help us to continue to help you by contributing to a worthwhile
cause: your profession's political action and future!
