Entertainment at The National

he APMA 2018 Annual Scientific Meeting (The National) is the must-attend meeting for every podiatrist
because it combines a diverse educational program
with a wealth of other activities for the benefit of the profession. This year's event, July 12-15 in Washington, DC, is no

Education
The meeting will provide attendees with 27.5 CECH from
a robust and diverse educational program. If a podiatrist can
do it or treat it, it will be at The National. Educational tracks
cover everything from surgery and wound care to dermatology and biomechanics. This year, The National is introducing
several new hands-on workshop topics to its agenda:

Attendees can also take advantage of several non-CECH
learning opportunities. These include the popular social media
seminars and other informative presentations in the APMA
booth, as well as three Young Physicians' Lunch-and-Learn
sessions covering pain management, trauma, and reconstructive surgery (Thursday); wound care and complications (Friday); and practice management (Saturday). Participants also
can choose from several non-CECH lunch symposia with a variety of topics, including gout, pain management, onychomycosis, and wound care.

Community
The eighth Team APMA 5K Run/Walk event is scheduled
for Saturday, July 14, at 6 a.m. The race takes place on site at
The National's host property, the Gaylord National Hotel &
Resort. The event is open to attendees registered for The National and exhibitors attending the meeting. Family members
of registrants and exhibitors also are welcome to participate.

Registration is $20 for podiatric medical students and $25 for
all others.
Proceeds from the run/walk support the APMA Educational
Foundation Student Scholarship Fund. Since the inception of
the event, Team APMA has raised more than $50,000 to support deserving third- and fourth-year podiatric medical students. Last year's event at The National sold out, so be sure to

The National will once again host the Podiatry Management
Podiatry Hall of Fame event. In a change from previous meetings, this year's event will be an evening reception on Thursday, July 12. This year's recipients are The National's opening speaker Rep. Brad Wenstrup, DPM (R-OH), and Podiatry
Institute Executive Director Dan Vickers. You may reserve
your spot at the reception ($75 per ticket) when you register for The National or by contacting Sandra Arez at sfarez@
apma.org. Proceeds from the event benefit the APMA Educational Foundation Student Scholarship Fund.

Entertainment
The National's host property, the Gaylord National Resort &
Convention Center, offers visitors an incredible experience. The
immediate National Harbor area includes the massive Capital
Wheel Ferris wheel, waterfront parks, and ample shopping and
dining options. Hotel guests can also take a complimentary
shuttle to the next-door MGM National Harbor Casino. A little
farther afield, attendees can take a water taxi to historic Old
Town Alexandria, VA, recently named #1 on the list of Best
Places to Go in 2018 by Money magazine.

and everyone should take the time to explore the nation's capital. The National Mall is home to free Smithsonian museums
including the National Air and Space Museum, National Museum of African American History and Culture, National Museum
of American History, National Museum of the American Indian,
and National Museum of Natural History. Monuments near the
National Mall include the Lincoln Memorial, Washington
Monument, World War II Memorial, Martin Luther King Jr.
Memorial, and Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial. Other
popular nearby locations with free admission include the
Capitol Building, Library of Congress, Union Station, and
National Zoo, among others.
