Named Endowments
Setting up a named endowment is a great way to support the profession, and one that offers you the opportunity to create a fund in your
family's name or to honor or memorialize a loved one.
Named endowments are established with a minimum donation
or pledge of $25,000 paid over a maximum of five years. The interest
generated is then available year after year to support student scholarships or educational programs, depending on the donor's interest.
During the past 15 years, more than 60 podiatrists and corporations
have established named endowments totaling more than $8 million
in support of podiatric medicine and podiatric medical scholarships.
This article highlights endowment benefactors who recently fulfilled their pledges or renewed their support. A full list of benefactors
is included in this special APMA Educational Foundation section. The
foundation thanks all of our benefactors for their very generous support and dedication over the years.

American Podiatric Medical Writers Association
The APMA Educational Foundation gratefully acknowledges the
generosity of Dr. and Mrs. Steven J. Berlin, who contributed $25,000
to the American Podiatric
Medical Writers Association
(APMWA) Endowment.
Dr. Berlin's generous gift
will allow the APMWA to increase the size and number
of prizes awarded to podiatric medical students who
participate in the annual
APMWA writing competition.

Foot & Ankle Specialists of the Mid-Atlantic
Foot & Ankle Specialists of the Mid-Atlantic (FASMA) has established the foundation's
most recent named
endowment. Seth A.
Rubenstein, DPM, APMA
vice president and a
FASMA partner, together with FASMA
partners Todd Harrison, DPM, and Michael Tritto, DPM, presented a $25,000 check to the
APMA Educational Foundation during the 2018 APMA House of Delegates meeting in March.

Dr. Rubenstein addressed the HOD, saying, "Having 54 doctors
practicing in 35 offices between Pennsylvania and North Carolina
would be considered a supergroup, but our size is not what makes us
super or special. What makes us special is that our physicians practice patient-centric care, and our doctors believe in giving back to the
community and giving back to our profession. As a token of our commitment to our students, we are going to present a check for $25,000
to the APMA Educational Foundation. And we hope that this also
serves as inspiration for other supergroups to follow our lead and
make a commitment themselves."

PICA
PICA, a corporate partner of
APMA and a friend of the profession, announced its renewed
corporate matching grant at the
2018 APMA HOD meeting. Once
again, PICA challenged APMA's leaders with a matching grant, $1 for
every dollar raised, up to $25,000. PICA matched the donations made
by APMA delegates, affiliated organizations, and others. During the
HOD meeting, attendees secured the matching grant, raising a total
of more than $121,000. Prior to HOD, more than $20,000 was received.
A combined total of more than $141,000 was raised toward the 2018
Annual Giving Campaign. PICA is a foundation supporter with a named
endowment established in the mid-1990s.
"PICA has and always will be an organization that supports podiatrists," said Ross E. Taubman, DPM, president of PICA. "Our commitment to the APMA Educational Foundation fits perfectly within
our mission that we exist to protect podiatrists."
Talar Medical
Talar Medical, a TCP Company, announced its continued support by pledging
an additional $25,000 to its current named
endowment, increasing the fund to $50,000.
"Since the start of this company, our
main goal has always been to give back to
the profession and educate podiatric medical students. They are the
future of our profession," said William Dabdoub, DPM, director of
Charitable Giving, Talar Medical.
Talar Medical is a group purchasing organization created by foot
and ankle specialists for foot and ankle specialists, allowing it to
leverage the collective purchasing power of its members. Talar began
with doctors leading the way to get the best products for their patients at the best prices, and it has become a movement incorporating other ideas including innovations on topical treatments, padding,
and other ancillary services. Talar also assists members with billing,
coding, and compliance and provides education and training on the
use of products.
