I am fortunate to be in a group practice with a lot of
great minds and years of experience. I can rely on them
for good advice no matter what the question. There
are also a lot of great physicians in my area. I am
fortunate to have a good relationship with
those I have met, so I would not say I
go to one single person for advice.

When you were a kid, what did you
want to be when you grew up?

What is the biggest change
you've seen in podiatric medicine
since you started practicing?

The advent and advancement of EHR
systems, for better or for worse.

Tell us about a patient who
changed your life/your approach to
medicine/your outlook.

What is your favorite
movie?

Probably my dad. I grew up
watching him struggle with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. Eventually he had a lot of
the complications associated with
the disease including an eventual
alcoholic ketoacidosis. It is a reminder to me that education and
prevention are so important. I try
to treat each patient as I would
my father.

All-time, I would have to
say "The English Patient,"
although I did recently
see "A Quiet Place," and,
although that's not my
genre of choice, it was
great!

If you could meet any famous person, who would it be,
and why?
It's a toss-up for me. If you include those not with us
any longer, I would have to say Abraham Lincoln or
Nelson Mandela. I would want to hear what Lincoln
had to say about the time in which he lived, and for
Mandela, I would inquire about his patience and perseverance. However, if I could meet someone still alive
today, my pick would be Warren Buffett.

What would your last meal be?
Surf and turf with a glass of Barolo.

What is your favorite vacation spot, and why?
Wherever I am going next and have not been before.

What is something about you that would surprise your
friends?
I had wild hair after college and backpacked across Russia and Mongolia, probably the greatest adventure of my
life. I learned to be self-reliant and appreciative of the
privileges and freedoms we have living in the USA.

10. What mistake have you made that taught you a great lesson?
Maybe it is just something you pick up on as you get
older, but I have learned to spend more time listening
to people I disagree with than to those I agree with.
There is always (and should always be) an opposing
perspective on any given topic, and you can gain more
from trying to understand another person's point of
view than you can by [expressing] your own.

From my first ingrown toenail in junior high school, I
knew podiatry was in the
stars for me. As they continued to plague me through
college, I ended up shadowing my podiatrist, Dr.
Almay, and decided on
podiatry as a career.
