Protecting Our Profession
The APMAPAC board has changed the name of the APMA
Government Education Fund. It will now be known as
APMA Protecting our Profession, or APMAPOP. This name
change defi nes exactly how donations to the former Government Education Fund are used,
and it eliminates any confusion
with the APMA Educational Foundation.
Funds raised for APMAPOP
come from state podiatric medical
associations, corporate accounts of our members, corporate
sponsors, non-members, and friends and allies of podiatric
medicine. These funds are used to educate our members, residents, and students about legislative issues affecting the profession and to prepare them to be citizen lobbyists. APMAPOP
funds also support the annual podiatric medical Legislative
Conference by underwriting the costs for podiatric physicians

and surgeons, as well as our student leaders, to travel to Washington, DC, to lobby Congress on your behalf, and APMAPOP
provides funding for the administration of APMAPAC.
Meaningful donations to APMAPAC from APMA members' personal funds are used to
support candidates running at the
federal level. These funds are extremely important because of the
need to support those who recognize the importance of our profession and the need to educate other candidates about the importance of our profession in the health-care system.
You may ask, "Which one should I support?" The answer
is, "Give to both!" Both are equally important, and by giving to
both, you are helping to protect our profession-which translates into protecting your livelihood. Giving to APMAPAC and
APMAPOP is your investment in the well-being and future of
our profession.
