CPME Update
Spring Meeting
The Council on Podiatric Medical Education held its spring
meeting at APMA headquarters April 25-27. The recommendations emanating from council committees, which completed
their deliberations at meetings and conference calls held from
February through April, constitute the majority of each CPME
agenda and include the review of the annual reports from the
colleges of podiatric medicine. The Joint Committee on the Review of Specialty Boards (JCRSB) held its meeting in February.
The Continuing Education Committee (CEC), Residency Review Committee (RRC), and the Collaborative Residency Evaluator Committee (CREC) all held meetings in March. The Accreditation Committee and the Budget Planning and Executive
Committees also met in April in Bethesda, MD.
Concerning the review and revision of CPME 120, Standards
and Requirements for Accrediting Colleges of Podiatric Medicine,
and CPME 130, Procedures for Accrediting Colleges of Podiatric
Medicine, and the College Accreditation Eligibility Requirements,
the council determined that based on the nature and scope of
comments received from the communities of interest, the documents will be reopened for comment this spring with an anticipated final adoption by the council at its October meeting.
The CPME Bylaws were revised and adopted at the April
council meeting to address the length of terms for Accreditation
Committee, CEC, RRC, and Nominating Committee members;
to clarify the CPME election procedures; to include a nondiscrimination notice; to increase the number of members on the
CEC; and to increase consistency with the CREC Bylaws. Additionally, the CPME approved a bylaws change concerning the
use of e-ballots. The updated CPME Bylaws are located at www.
cpme.org.
Residency actions at the April CPME meeting included
(please see pages 13-17 of the July 2015 version of CPME 330,
Procedures for Approval of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residencies, at www.cpme.org, for definitions of the following categories of approval):

The CEC also commenced its interim review of documents
CPME 720, Standards and Requirements for Approval of Providers
of Continuing Education in Podiatric Medicine, and CPME 730,

Council Elections and Appointments
The council elected its officers to be effective at the close of
the council's October meeting. Kieran Mahan, DPM, of Philadelphia, was elected chair, and Keith Cook, DPM, of Newark,
NJ, was elected vice chair.
Alyssa Stephenson, DPM, of Fond du Lac, WI, and Steven
Vyce, DPM, of New Haven, CT, both attended their first CPME
meeting in April as at-large members. Dr. Vyce will serve the
council on an interim basis until the next scheduled election
in October. He replaces Coleen Napolitano, DPM, who served
the council since 2013 and also served on the CEC and RRC.
CPME wishes Dr. Napolitano all the best and is thankful for
her service to the council.
The council also confirmed the following CPME representatives to council committees: Dr. Vyce was confirmed as the
CPME representative on the RRC; Melanie Violand, DPM, was
reconfirmed as a member of the Accreditation Committee; and
Jane Marie Souza, DPM, was reappointed as a CPME representative on the Accreditation Committee.

At-Large Member Positions Open on the Council
CPME's Nominating Committee is seeking applications for
four at-large and two public CPME positions. CPME will hold
a closed ballot election to fill the positions at its October meeting. The positions are for three-year terms renewable up to
three consecutive terms.
The council asks each applicant to describe in writing
