INTRODUCING THE CANDIDATES

E

ach year during the House of Delegates meeting, elections are held for open positions on the APMA Board
of Trustees, including officer positions.
This year, there are two three-year terms open, with
two incumbent candidates running for reelection. In accordance with changes to the APMA Bylaws adopted by the 2019
House of Delegates, the position of vice president has been
eliminated. Treasurer Laura J. Pickard, DPM, is running for a
second term as treasurer this year, and, if elected, will be eligible to run for president-elect in 2021.
The bylaws changes also resulted in a new position open
for a "non-ascending" member of the Board of Trustees. This
position will be filled by a member of the association for a

period of three years with the ability to be elected to a second three-year term for a maximum total of six years. With
the exception of the young physician member position, candidates for this position shall not have served previously as a
voting member on the Board of Trustees.
Finally, the appointed young physician liaison to the Board
of Trustees has been eliminated. A young physician member of
the board will now be elected for a two-year term and will have
full voting rights.
The statements that follow were written by the candidates.
Elections will be held at the 2020 House of Delegates meeting,
March 13-16 in Washington, DC.

ment. In 2020, I will be launching PARE Coding and Compliance to assist our colleagues who wish to audit their own practices for coding and compliance, or work with them to defend
themselves in case of an audit.
Thank you for your attention. I will continue to work on
your behalf and seek your support for my candidacy.

Candidate for Election to Non-Ascending
Position on the Board of Trustees
Thank you for allowing me to introduce myself. I am from Manalapan, NJ, and I am seeking your support as I run for the non-ascending
position on the APMA Board of Trustees. I have been in private practice for
more than 25 years and have been an active member of the New
Jersey Podiatric Medical Society (NJPMS), serving on the local
division level since I started practice and as president of NJPMS
from 2013-2014. I have also served as a delegate to the APMA
House of Delegates for the last seven years. Over my professional career, I have gained an understanding of what it means to
serve in a leadership capacity, whether for the state of New
Jersey or APMA. I wish to continue serving our profession.
I have witnessed a lot in 25 years, some of it good (scope of
practice changes within many states that allow DPMs to practice to the level to which they are trained) and some of it bad
(many battles for parity with our MD and DO colleagues).
At APMA, I have served on many committees, including
the Health Information Technology Task Force, Health Policy
Committee, and MACRA Task Force. For the last two years,
I have volunteered on the Communications Committee, and
for the last three years, I have served on the HOD Resolutions Committee.
In 2019, I earned my CPC (certified professional coder) and
have started my own consulting firm, JARALL Medical Manage18 APMA News January/February 2020

Brooke A. Bisbee, DPM
Candidate for Reelection
to the Board of Trustees

As my sixth year as a trustee is
nearing completion, I would like to
once again extend my heartfelt gratitude for placing your trust in me and
electing me to serve on the APMA
Board of Trustees. As I seek reelection,
please know that I do not take lightly the position bestowed
upon me, and I promise to work not just for you, but with you,
to continue to advance the work of APMA.
One of my favorite quotes is from Henry Ford: "Whether
you think you can or think you can't, you are right." Today's
health-care climate makes it imperative that we have leaders
who believe "we can," who stay engaged and positive, and who
work to advance our profession and our association for the
benefit of our members and the patients we serve.
During my tenure, I have learned that issues can vary greatly from region to region-some affect all of us, some only a few
members. As a trustee, I do not have a perfect solution to each
