30th Annual Kaplan-Clarke-Foster
Golf Tournament & Practice Management Seminar
f you've never been to French Lick Resort and Casino in
French Lick, IN, you've missed out. The resort was the
backdrop for the 30th Annual Kaplan-Clarke-Foster and
offered a spa; a casino; a multitude of dining options; and, of
course, world-class golf at the Pete Dye and Donald Ross
courses. Attendees at this year's event will tell you it was one
of our best ever.
But let's go back a step and remember how it all started,
and why.
Thirty years ago, Oliver (Ollie) Foster, DPM; Rick Hecker,
DPM; Gary Kaplan, DPM; and Gene Spector, DPM, got together for a weekend of golf with the aim of raising money to
support APMA's political action committee (then known as
PPAC). Since then, more than $800,000 has been raised in
support of political action through the Kaplan-Clarke-Foster
(KCF) event-named in honor of the first two chairs of
APMA's political action committee, Earl Kaplan, DPM, and

Teddy Clarke, DPM. The name was amended in 2015 to honor the legacy of the third APMAPAC chair, Dr. Foster.
This highly successful fundraising event continues a wonderful tradition of bringing together podiatric physicians, corporate sponsors, friends, colleagues, and family in support of
this great profession.
APMA uses funds raised through the KCF to sponsor the
annual Podiatric Medical Legislative Conference, held in Washington, DC, each spring (the 2020 conference has been canceled due to schedule conflicts with Congress). The funds provide sponsorship for members and students to come to DC to
represent their states and districts through direct lobbying with
members of Congress and their staff. Funds raised through
the KCF also provide sponsorship for APMA's eAdvocacy website (www.apma.org/eAdvocacy), the portal through which
members, staff, friends, and family can connect directly with
state and federal elected officials to lobby on behalf of the goals
of the profession.
At the 2019 KCF, after several days of early morning golf
rounds and evening practice management seminars, the group's
participants were treated to a deluxe awards banquet. This year's
winning teams were:
