The National in Boston

he APMA 2020 Annual Scientific Meeting (The National),
July 23-26 in Boston, is the must-attend meeting for every foot and ankle physician and surgeon. The National
continues to evolve to meet the changing needs of the podiatric community, with new topics and features added each year.
The conference offers attendees 28 CECH from a diverse educational program that covers all aspects of foot and ankle surgery
and medicine.
The National showcases the breadth and power of medicine,
starting with our opening session speaker. Natalie Stavas, MD, is
a physician at Boston Children's Hospital with a special focus on
preventing childhood violence. During her presentation, "Running Towards Chaos," she will discuss her experiences and personal philosophy, and how they have shaped her life and career.

The venue for The National, the Hynes Convention Center,
is conveniently located in the vibrant urban center of Boston.
The city is steeped in history, enjoys a dynamic dining scene,
and is rich in museums, public parks, and revered institutes of
higher learning. It is a trip well worth making, whether you
stick around and explore New England after the meeting or simply make good use of your post-educational program evenings.
Registration for The National will open in February; pay
close attention to your APMA digital publications and social
media for the exact date. In the meantime, check out www.
apma.org/thenational to get a peek at what is happening this
year, including a list of exhibitors already committed to the
conference and more information about our host city.

On April 15, 2013, Dr. Stavas approached the finish line of
her fifth Boston Marathon. Just blocks away, she heard explosions and ran toward them. Arriving at the scene, she went to
work administering CPR, applying tourniquets, and triaging the
wounded. After the bombings, Dr. Stavas increased her efforts in
preventing childhood violence. This advocacy goes beyond borders; traveling to Haiti throughout the year, Dr. Stavas provides
medical care to children and helps strengthen the fragile medical infrastructure.
In a change from previous meetings, Dr. Stavas' speech will
come toward the end of the day on Thursday and will be followed by the grand opening of the exhibit hall. Because the exhibit hall will not be open during lunch on Thursday, The
National is providing several non-CECH lunch options for attendees that day. Be sure to choose your lunch when you complete your online registration.
Speaking of the exhibit hall, APMA is bringing its popular
online Career Center to The National! Attendees will have the
opportunity to check out career resources, browse the online
job listings, and make arrangements to meet with potential em-

ployers during the meeting. Look for more information about
this exciting new addition to The National as we get closer to
the event.
In response to attendee feedback, The National is streamlining its educational program this year and running only two
concurrent tracks (rather than the traditional three tracks).
That doesn't mean, however, that any specific foot and ankle
topics have been removed; they have simply been integrated
into other tracks.
