APMA News - January/February 2022 - 18

William Long, DPM
Candidate for Re-election to the Board of Trustees
APMA members, I humbly request
your support for re-election to the
Board of Trustees. I have enjoyed
helping to advance our profession
as a trustee for the past three years
and hope to continue.
I am a native of Spartanburg, SC, and obtained
my Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from
South Carolina State University as well as a
Master of Arts from The Citadel, Military College
of South Carolina. Prior to attending Temple
University School of Podiatric Medicine, I served
eight years active duty in the United States Coast
Guard. After obtaining my podiatric medical
degree, I completed a four-year reconstructive
rearfoot/ankle surgery residency at Penn
Presbyterian Medical Center.
I returned to South Carolina and purchased
a practice in the upstate. I became active with
the South Carolina Podiatric Medical Association
and assisted in expanding the podiatric scope of
practice to include ankle surgery and digit amputations.
I am presently serving as chair of both the
Legislative Committee and the Diversity, Equity,
and Inclusion (DEI) Task Force.
It is truly an honor to lead the charge on advancing
our profession. The successful passage
of the MISSION Act was a major APMA victory
that corrected pay for podiatrists employed with
the Veterans Health Administration. We continue
to pursue passage of the Helping Ensure Lifeand
Limb-Saving Access to Podiatric Physicians
(HELLPP) Act, which will force Medicaid to
recognize podiatrists as physicians. Lastly, as the
chair of the DEI Task Force, it is my goal to ensure
every podiatrist has a voice. I wish everyone much
success in 2022 and look forward to continuing to
serve as a trustee.
Carolyn McAloon, DPM
Candidate for Election to Board of Trustees
Delivering health care has become
increasingly complex during my 22
years of private practice. A strong
APMA with proven leaders is essential
to help our members succeed
in this challenging landscape. It will require
all the experience, innovation, passion, and skill
that each of us can contribute to achieve physician
parity and ensure that our specialty continues to
attract the best and brightest.
Like many of you, my service to our specialty
started on the local level. My state association
service culminated in my serving as president
of the 1,000-plus-member California Podiatric
Medical Association in 2013-2014. Since 2018,
I have served on the Podiatric Medical Board of
California by gubernatorial appointment, licensing
and regulating 2,000 DPMs. As a leader, I am
known for fostering inclusivity: making sure all
voices are heard, building consensus, and then
speaking with one voice.
I have been honored to have been elected to
our APMA House of Delegates each year since
2010. Our organization is sustained by its volunteers,
and I served as a volunteer on the APMA
Public Education and Information Committee
from 2008-2013. I am currently serving as a
State Component Leader to APMA's Center for
Professional Advocacy Advisory Group, a group
that assists state components with their legal,
regulatory, and legislative advocacy goals.
With a visionary partner, building my solo practice
into the largest podiatric group practice in
California has provided me with a great career and
a fabulous life. Paying it forward is the best way to
thank all those who have encouraged and mentored
me to accomplish more than I ever dreamed.
I am looking forward to the challenge of serving
our great specialty as a member of the APMA
Board of Trustees with the enthusiasm and positivity
that I bring to every endeavor I undertake,
and I humbly ask for your support. Thank you.
