APMA was notifi ed about the passing of Samuel Mason, DPM. Dr. Mason was a recipient of the
APMA Meritorious Service Award in 1999. The following is an excerpt from the October 1999 issue
of APMA News:
" Dr. Mason graduated from the Long Island University College of Podiatry in 1950, following three
years with the US Army. He practiced in Phoenix for nearly 40 years before retiring in 1990. He then
accepted a position as chief of the Podiatry Section at the Carl T. Hayden Veterans' Aff airs Medical
Center in Phoenix. ... His eff orts with the VA have transformed the Podiatry Section from a one-room
treatment center to one of the medical center's busiest clinics, treating more than 14,000 patients
per year. Dr. Mason also leads a podiatric residency and training program that has achieved PSR-24
candidacy status, and that now attracts students from all seven schools of podiatric medicine who are
in search of a solid clinical experience. Dr. Mason is a past president of the Arizona Podiatric Medical
Association and the Arizona State Board of Podiatry Examiners. "
