Driving APMA's Mission Forward:
Spotlight on the Education Committee
In every organization, there are unsung heroes
who work tirelessly behind the scenes, driving impactful
initiatives and paving the way for success.
At APMA, our committee volunteers play a pivotal
role in shaping the future of podiatry and elevating
the profession to new heights.
In this edition of APMA News, we are excited to
launch a new series that shines a spotlight on these
dedicated individuals and the crucial work they do
within the association. Throughout the coming months,
we will dive into the various committees that strengthen
APMA, exploring their contributions, accomplishments,
and the inspiring stories behind their efforts.
For our inaugural feature, we turn to the
Education Committee-a core group of dedicated
professionals who are passionate about advancing
podiatric education and ensuring the highest
standards of learning within our field. The Education
Committee is responsible for overseeing and evaluating
all continuing education activities of the association.
This charge includes the Annual Scientific
Meeting (The National), live seminars, webinars, and
on-demand activities that provide continuing education
credit hours (CECH) in podiatric medicine.
Here's what some of our Education Committee volunteers
have to say about serving on the committee.
Why is serving on this committee important
to you?
Timothy Miller, DPM: APMA is a true supporter of
our profession. Serving on this committee allows
me to support the association that so earnestly
supports us. The strength is in our numbers, and
serving on committees will only strengthen our
bond and our profession.
Mohammad Khan, DPM: I believe APMA offers
the highest quality continuing medical educational
opportunities (both virtually and in-person) to
podiatrists, thus [it is very important to me to contribute]
to this committee to uphold the highest
quality standards of CME.
Karen Langone, DPM: Education is how we
grow and move forward.
How has your experience on the
committee contributed to your
personal or professional growth?

Dr. Khan: My experience on this committee made me
appreciate all the work that happens behind the scenes
to ensure CME is truly beneficial for those attending/
learning at the events and has helped me to improve
my own presentations and lectures as a result.
Dr. Langone: I have the opportunity to serve and
learn from leaders in the profession.
In what ways have you been able to
make a meaningful impact through
your involvement in the committee?
Dr. Khan: The Education Committee gave me the
opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the medical
education aspect of APMA via discussions of The
National and reviewing lectures for CME approval.
What has been your favorite initiative,
activity, or accomplishment of the
committee so far?
Dr. Khan: I enjoyed reviewing online lectures that were
submitted to APMA for CME approval on the online
learning platform. I learned a lot of new information by
reviewing these lectures and learned how to critically
review a lecture to ensure it meets CME standards.
How does the committee foster a
sense of community and belonging
among its members?
Dr. Khan: The APMA committees are a true representation
of APMA members, which is a representation
of our entire profession. Although each committee
has members from different backgrounds who are
in different stages of their careers, each member has
equal potential to make a meaningful contribution.
Dr. Miller: The bond that is forged with these committees
allows our group to become a cohesive unit
and allows us to achieve our goal of advancement.
What do you hope to achieve or see
accomplished through your ongoing
involvement with the committee?
Dr. Khan: I hope to see the educational opportunities
for APMA's continuing medical education
continue to evolve and become a more meaningful
educational resource for our profession.
Dr. Miller: I hope to strengthen our profession
and allow podiatry to continue to prosper and grow.
