Patient advocacy is an important part of delivering quality care. During the month of September, consider recognizing
the national health observances that raise awareness about health topics that affect your patients the most.
PERIPHERAL ARTERIAL DISEASE
(PAD) AWARENESS MONTH
PAD affects 8 to 12 million Americans
and is one of the leading causes of foot or
leg amputations in the United States.
APMA has developed a tool kit of
resources to help educate the public

FALLS PREVENTION
AWARENESS WEEK
Podiatrists are uniquely positioned to
help patients avoid falls. During Falls
Prevention Awareness Week, September
23-27, take the time to revisit your
falls prevention care plan. Conduct a
falls risk assessment on patients 65 and
older and discuss falls and preventive
measures with patients at risk (e.g.,
individuals with peripheral neuropathy,
postoperative patients, etc.). To access

HEALTHY AGING MONTH
As you and your patients age, there are
topics that warrant special consideration.
The APMA Healthy Aging webpage has
resources to help you keep healthy aging
in mind when caring for older adults.

caring for older adults, APMA has you
covered. " Recognizing and Responding
to Elder Abuse (On-Demand) " is available
