A 1 2 3 3 Ï Rockpanel at Chauvet Cave, above, depicts a number of woollyrhinos with black, mid-bodyskinfolds that would not have been visible in winter, when covered with hair. One rhino has been renewed with extra horns, backs, and a hind leg. Incised pebblefrom La Colombièrerock-shelter shows a rhino in summer moult; the top of its rump is bare, but itsfront is still covered with hair. The animal was "killed" with threefeathered darts to its belly and renewed with extra horns. 36 Archaeology
