If what is past is prologue, we also
must keep in mind that what got us
here won't get us there. As we move
forward, I am truly excited about
what lies ahead-the unknown. The

opportunity-and the urgency of our
current circumstances calls for us-to
serve as drivers of what can be. Some
of that will require getting unstuck,
letting go of perceptions about what
has or has not been done, and
using lessons learned to focus on the
potential in front of us.
One of the things that we've learned
in the midst of the pandemic is how
important it is to appreciate what we
have. We have a skilled, capable
audiology membership to help us
identify new solutions for hearing and
balance health care, to prepare and
support budding professionals, and
to establish programs and products
that meet current and anticipated
needs. We've also learned over the
last 2 years that we're better off when
we work together. Never in most of
our lifetimes has there been a more
compelling reason for us to join forces-
to increase accountability and exploit
the synergy between our professions
to create a new level of hearing and
balance health care. The key will lie in

true collaboration, where we will work
together to achieve mutually beneficial
objectives and where you will actively
engage in determining and defining
what will be most meaningful and
useful.
As ASHA advances efforts to
transform learning and move toward
personalized and customized
learning opportunities, establishes
systemic equity and inclusion, builds
the capacity to implement clinical
research, increases the value placed
on our services, and improves access
to care, the Association needs a
critical element-your voice. Yours is
a key voice that we absolutely need
to ensure that those you serve are
receiving the best care possible.
I've spent a great deal of my
career highlighting value where
it was believed to be negligible
or nonexistent-and championing
representation. There is no time like
the present and future for instilling that
value in and nurturing AuD students
and early career professionals to build
strong and confident clinicians. We
know that engaging students early
boosts career pipelines. We know
that AuD students and early career
professionals need guidance. We know
that many people don't know what an
audiologist is or does-and others know
but don't see themselves represented
when they look at audiologists. All of
that is subject to change as we forge
ahead.
ASHA has the capacity and potential
to enhance audiology educational
offerings and practice management
resources and to clearly communicate
the value of audiology services to
our members and third parties.

Working together, we can raise the
profile of audiology-and shift the
ASHA audiologist experience from
meeting requirements to enhancing
professional careers through valued
ASHA programs, products, and
services. As I step into the role of ASHA
CEO, I look forward to what we will
co-create.
