independence between the IT and OT sides of DCIM,
as it is possible to vary the level of integration on each
side to accommodate different DCIM goals. The OT is
divided into the following levels:
* Level 1 reflects the most basic and minimum set of
telemetry required to allow for basic monitoring in the
whitespace; 
* Level 2 reflects a more complete and comprehensive set of telemetry in the whitespace; and 
* Level 3 reflects telemetry that ties whitespace
telemetry and back end infrastructure monitoring together into a whole building facility view.  
For OT, increasing the level of integration indicates an
overall increase in the level of operational awareness,
and IT/facility management.

DCIM Connected Framework
Now that the data sources have been identified, the
data center needs to get all of the data into a central
location in order to begin to leverage the insights in
the data. DCIM provides the connective tissue between

data center's physical (sensors, devices, etc.) and logical
(network) layers by exchanging data with the power and
cooling infrastructure and integrating their operation
into a holistic ecosystem. This ecosystem allows the data
center stakeholders to maximize resource utilization
and increase sustainability.
Collecting the data from the various devices in the
ecosystem is the first step. Advanced DCIM systems collect data from the typical ITE systems in the data center,
often through various protocols (IPMI, SNMP, Redfish).
The power and cooling infrastructure systems or subsystems that are part of generic building management
systems (electric meters and sub-meters, temperature
and humidity sensors) typically operate on BACnet and
Modbus protocols to feed specific data into the DCIM
system.
Table 2 gives an example of the telemetry tiers and levels and an idea of the organization aligned to the ecosystem owner. Figure 1 shows the tiers and levels associated
with each supporting infrastructure equipment in a representative data center. Understanding this relationship
