Grand Hotel. Historic Italianate Adelphia Hotel Restored to Its Original Grandeur. t he Adelphi Hotel is located in Saratoga Springs, New York and is a contributing building to the Broadway Historic District listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 1877, William McCaffery, a former conductor of the Rensselaer and Saratoga Railroad, built the Italianate Adelphi Hotel to replace the Old Adelphia Hotel that he had inherited from his wife's family. Saratoga Springs once was home to numerous grand hotels that played summer host to many high society guests seeking respite and wellness, as well as those seeking varied entertainments, horse racing and gambling. Unfortunately, those hotels were lost to fire and demolition. Today, the Adelphi Hotel is the last hotel with a grand porch to grace Broadway. fall 2019 I designsolutions 35
