every level of the main
front structure, rear wing
and outdoor spaces were
constructed at different floor
elevations. Our solution
that not only allowed for a
handicap person to enter
the front lobby and move
themselves back to the rear
gardens, they are now able
to access all levels of all five
floors with elevators and
discreetly placed ramps."
Historic elements such
as the front façade, veranda
porch, windows, grand stairs,
trim and upper floor corrido
doors were meticulously
detailed and documented
so that replication would be
seamless and undetectable
to guests.

The Millwork
According to Lief Larsen
of MMC Millwork, the firm
provided wardrobe units,
headboards and extensive
trim for the guest rooms, wall
paneling in the lobby, fluted
columns and the bar. Major
items were fabricated of Walnut
while trim was Poplar. A major
part of the project, he notes,
was that all the woodwork,
whether stain or paint grades,
was factory finished with
conversion varnish.
"Since this is a very old
building, there were many
items that had to be altered
on the fly," he points out.
"Communication and quick
decisions were normally the
order of the day."
