The most noteworthy
architectural woodwork
elements were the wardrobe
units, he continues, because
they featured Walnut
interiors, painted exteriors,
and since the elevators to
the guest rooms are so small,
they had to be designed and
built in modules in order to fit
into the elevators.
Everything was a
challenge, says Ranieri,
"however the most
challenging was the fact
that scope and design
solutions changed almost
continuously throughout the
construction of the project as
new discoveries were made
in the demolition and as the
budget and project objectives
increased because of added
costs for the renovation. There
was an extensive amount
of structural repair that was
unknown in the beginning of
the project and the structural
repairs alone took almost two
years to complete. Coming
up with creative solutions
to solve design problems
all while not disrupting the
historic integrity is a special
problem that you don't find in
every project."
The transformative and
extensive rehabilitation of the
Adelphi Hotel has resulted in
an increased awareness and
appreciation of the locally
and nationally significant
hotel. This beautiful historic
hotel has been restored to
its original grandeur and
prominence on Broadway and
will be enjoyed for generations
to come. The total budget
for the project grew from $7
million to over $33 million.

is elated with the results and
the hotel is the jewel of the
city commanding the most
impressive presence on
Broadway."
