The design team chose
a medium-toned Walnut for
the curved teller line, back
wall and feature ceiling
soffits. "We wanted a species
and finish that felt warm,
comfortable, residential, and
would fit within the context of
some of the other spaces in
the neighborhood," explains
Keller. "There is a rich grain
that is readily visible, but not
overpowering in such a small
space. In addition, when it
came to material termination
and detailing, the profiles
and finishes are more easily
managed with the Walnut.
We also wanted to ensure the
product was readily available
given the short time frame
within which we needed to
be complete."
High Score
The most noteworthy
aspect of the project, says
Levin, was the ceiling. "The
ceiling consisted of a series
of linear panels surrounding
an intricate circular metal
feature with a 30-foot
diameter. The panels needed
to perfectly fit this piece, the
soffits and the walls, despite
not having verified installed
field dimensions prior to
fabrication in order to make
the deadline. The detail
frames the entire lobby and is
quite the showpiece."
