Quilted American Black
Walnut with various painted
finishes, and plain sawn
American Hickory were used
throughout the project.
"Each area had its own
share of intricate details,"
recalls DesMarais. "Most
noteworthy are the concealed
doors within full paneled
walls with face trim, paneled
walls, soffits and ceilings with
unique inset lighting." Chi
notes the lobby's 19-feet-high
columns with accent fluted
bronze cutout, as well as
the social room entry with
bronze vertical fins and brass
metal tips, are particularly
noteworthy.

"We began working
with the design team very
early on in the project,"
says DesMarais. "Budget
constraints meant finding
cost effective construction
methods while maintaining
the design intent. Over
30 different finishes were
developed specifically for
the project through the use
of step boards to define the
exact tonal value for which
the design team was looking.
Additionally, scheduling
was difficult as there were
two identical towers with
many consistent woodwork
areas, but each also had its
own identifying elements.
Working closely with the
general contractor, owners'
representative, and being
straight forward and honest
in communications were key."

Most challenging, adds
Chi, "was the coordination
aspect of working on such
a large project and making
sure all interior architectural
components were as closely
built to what was planned. In
this case the project was a
total success!"

Teamwork
Working with Hollywood
Woodwork was a wonderful
experience, says Chi. "They
understand a designer's
vision and go beyond to
achieve the expectation. They
are thorough, professionally
trained with years of
knowledge, and are great
teammates."
"This is Hollywood
Woodwork's fourth project
with designer Julia Chi of
Interiors by Steven G and it
has been a great experience
with each project. Albeit
the largest, it was a very
close team effort with the
designers," concludes
DesMarais.
