Data Driven Design, Specification and the NEW AWI Standards. In 1953 AWI published its first architectural woodwork standard and established three objectives based upon a nationwide survey of architects and specification writers. Those objectives were: "(1) To define exactly (in precise terminology) the grades of millwork quality available and to provide tests whereby the relative quality of woodwork delivered to the job can be measured against that called for in the specifications. (2) To word the tests and standards in such concrete terminology as to eliminate all chance of disagreement regarding compliance with the specifications. (3) To require equal quality and competence of all bidders on the same job." 52 I designsolutions winter 2020
