Garcia agrees that of
all the elements designed
throughout the building, the
lobby sculpture proved to
be most intricate due to its
scale and shape that led to
the overall complexity. " The
most challenging aspect
was to keep the sculpture
as an artful form while still
maintaining the functionality
of the spaces that live within
its spatial boundaries. In
order to achieve what visually
appears to be seamless, the
woodworker tailored the
construction incorporating
purposeful folds that mirrored
the movement and shapes of
the overall sculpture, " he says.
item in this project is
the extensiveness of the
tongue and groove ceilings
throughout the property,
both interior and exterior,
adds DesMarais. " There is
over 10,000 square feet
of wood ceilings. Almost
everywhere you walk are
beautiful ceiling panels,
including the exterior ceilings
which are mitered into the
facia, and the fitness center
which was over 30 feet high
and closely integrated with
diffusers and lighting, making
an exquisite space. Finally,
nearly every elevation on this
project was floor to ceiling,
requiring close coordination
with flooring, drywall, tile and
stone, wall coverings, etc.,
and everything needed to fit
perfectly in the spaces. "

Overcoming Challenges
" Our estimating team
worked for over six months
to value-engineer the project
to meet the budget with the
contractor, designer and
owner. We also worked closely
with Garcia Stromberg/GS4
Studios during the submittals
and continuing into production
and installation to capture
and execute their unique
vision, " recalls DesMarais.
" Additionally, our
relationship with the general
contractor and the various
trades was cooperative to
ensure that the woodwork was
properly dimensioned and
sequenced in what turned out
to be an extremely accelerated
installation schedule due to
a six-month job site closure
during Covid, " DesMarais
continues. " Our installation
crew logged more than 18,000
hours which at its peak
included 75 carpenters working
24-7 across two shifts. "
