Northwest Pipe – Monday, July 9, 2012
Since 1966, Northwest Pipe Company has been a leading manufacturer of welded steel pipe. The rolled and welded steel pipes are used for water transmission pipelines, penstocks, water and wastewater treatment plants, cogeneration facilities and circulating water systems. The company also manufactures other welded steel pipe products for use in a range of applications, including energy, construction, agriculture, and industrial and traffic signpost systems. The tour will visit the Denver, Colorado, Operation of Northwest Pipe, one of their ten manufacturing facilities, including two laser-guided double spiral-weld mills for ODs from 20 to 123 inches (58 to 312 cm). Material thickness ranges from 0.135 to 0.750 inches (3.4 to 19.1 mm). The welded pipes are 100% ultrasonic tested per API 5L and RT Full Radiographic (x-ray). The ends can be prepared to a number of configurations, e.g., O-Tite rolled groove O-ring gasketed bell and spigot, weld bell and spigot, mitered weld bell, Victualic weld-on and roll groove, flanged and flexible couplings. Carnegie bell and spigot, square cut, plain end, and beveled ends. The finished pipes are then coated with cement mortar, liquid epoxy, Polyurethane, or paints according to the pipe diameter – 20 to 108 in. (58 to 274 cm). The company also has capability of coating welded steel pipes ranging in diameter from 17 to 122 inches (43 to 309 cm) using Polyethylene tape, liquid epoxies, specialty paints, and polyurethanes. Pipes between 20 and 60 ft. (6.1 and 18.3 m) in length can be hydro-tested. Duration: 08:00 to 12:00 on Monday (including travel time). Actual time of tour is about 09:00 to 11:00. Restrictions: Limited to 30 people / Cost: U.S. $65.

Coors Plant and Brewery Tuesday, July 10, 2012
The Golden, Colorado, operation of Miller Coors Company, founded by Adolph Coors in 1873, is today the largest single-site brewery in the world. The Golden facility can brew up to 22 million barrels and package up to 16 million barrels annually. Coors beer is nonpasteurized, undergoing a sterile filtering process instead. Coors product is distributed cold throughout the U.S. The company also owns and is a partner in operating the U.S.’s largest aluminum can manufacturing plant in Golden and a glass bottle manufacturing plant in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. The tour will begin with a visit to the aluminum can plant in the Golden Brewery, with production of millions of cans annually. Coors is proud to have been the first company to develop the can drawing process and produce an all-aluminum, two-piece beverage can in 1959. Even though beer had been available in cans since 1935, the earlier cans were made of steel. A tour of the brewery will follow. The brewery tour will feature the brew house, malt house and packaging complex where the visitors can have a first-hand view of each of the fascinating steps of the brewing process. Following the tour, a reception with beer tasting will be hosted by the Coors Brewery at the Public Relations Lounge. Duration: 12:00 to 17:00 on Tuesday (includes travel time). Actual time of tour is about 13:00 to 16:00. Restrictions: Limited to 30 people / Cost: U.S. $65.
