STATE-OF-THE-ART BAYTOWN
FIRE TRAINING CENTER
Saving and protecting lives is a priority in Baytown, and having
the best training is crucial for our first responders. That's
why City leaders pushed for the state-of-the-art Baytown Fire
Training Center.
The training center is being paid for by the City of
Baytown and the Fire Control Prevention and Emergency
Medical Services tax district. The building is about 9,000
square feet and features two indoor classrooms that can
fit up to 40 students each. There are also two smaller
outdoor classrooms attached to the training building and
the rescue tower.
The facility is currently in its third phase of
construction but is already in use. It features a two-story
clean burn fire building, a 60-foot rescue tower, and many
other staging props. When construction is finished, there
will be nine industrial training areas for firefighters to
experience real-time simulations.
The space is also for rent, if you're looking for a place
to hold a company event or training. Local businesses and
area firefighters are encouraged to contact the City for
more information on rental services.
FURRY, FOUR-LEGGED FRIENDS AWAIT
Baytown's new Animal Services and Adoption Shelter will
open to the public this year. This state-of-the-art facility will
offer a variety of new features and amenities that will enhance
the adoption process, increase pet ownership education, and
improve the health and well-being of shelter animals.
At 14,034 square feet, the new space is more than
double the size of the existing building, including space
for a volunteer training room. The shelter will be capable
of housing 63 dog kennels and 78 cat suites, and will have
indoor and outdoor adoption " get to know you " areas. " It is
built to exceed the state health department requirements, "
explains Health Director, Tony Gray. " It is a great venue for
our residents to find their future, forever family member. "
The health and well-being of the animals was the top
priority when designing the kennel areas of the new facility,
creating a low-stress environment and mitigating the spread
of disease. Additionally, the expanded veterinary services
wing will improve the shelter's lifesaving work for sick and
injured pets, and will allow for spay and neuter services.
The City looks forward to working toward the goal of
becoming a no-kill shelter and adding services that benefit
the community. This new facility is a giant stepping-stone
toward reaching that goal.
