PRESIDENT'S LETTER
Thought Leadership
Successfully navigating the industry's current trends and
turning them into opportunity requires members to remain
vigilant on industry thought leadership. BISA seeks to be a
valued resource delivering timely and relevant thought
leadership for members. This strategic initiative for BISA
took various forms in the first half of 2017.
* Now more than ever, it is critical for our business to
receive news from trusted channels. During the 2017
BISA Annual Convention, we launched a new online hub,
BISA Portfolio (portfolio.bisanet.org) as part of a comDaniel J. McCormack
prehensive content strategy. Our goal is for BISA PortBISA President
folio to become your primary online source for critical
and relevant industry news, insights, feature articles and
other important information from a variety of sources.
At the same time as the launch of BISA Portfolio, we joined the world of social
media with a new LinkedIn group and Twitter account. I encourage all members to join the LinkedIn group and follow @ BISATweets to receive important
industry and association news from BISA.
* Also during the convention, BISA introduced the BISA Diversity Award to
recognize an organization within the financial industry that demonstrates leadership, resourcefulness and results in driving diversity and inclusion with its
business. The BISA Diversity Award is the latest in a series of initiatives by BISA
to support our member firms to drive business results by attracting, developing and retaining diverse talent through awareness, education and community
engagement. The BISA Diversity Award, to be distributed on an annual basis,
also will help promote best practice sharing of effective diversity strategies
and tactics that create an impact within the industry. BISA will begin accepting
nominations from member companies for the inaugural BISA Diversity Award
in fall 2017 with the winner being announced at the BISA Annual Convention,
March 6-9, 2018, in Hollywood, Fl.
* Shortly after the convention, BISA released results from the 2016/2017 Annual
Industry Checkup, conducted by Kehrer Bielan Research & Consulting and
sponsored by BISA. Since 2012, Kehrer Bielan has combined proprietary and
industry data to provide this annual review of the health of the investment
services industry as it relates to banks and credit unions. The Industry Checkup
provides valuable insight to BISA members. Executives who manage investment
services inside banks and credit unions use the report to evaluate their businesses against their peers and the industry, while product and service providers
track important trends in the financial institution channel. If you are a member
who did not receive the report, contact bisa@BISAnet.org to request access to it.
Beyond the items listed above, BISA provides thought leadership in the form of inperson events including the annual Regulatory & Compliance Summit. Mark your
calendar for the 2017 Regulatory & Compliance Summit taking place November
13-14, at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Washington D.C. As the year progresses, I
will share updates on the BISA thought-leadership initiatives in this column. ▲
