These restaurants, hotels, and rooftop venues provide stunning
sightlines of the city's architectural gems.
With picture-perfect views of the Brooklyn Bridge,
1 the Fulton comes from chef Jean-Georges
Vongerichten. The seafood-centric eatery opened
in May 2019 at Pier 17 in the Seaport District with
seating on two floors and an expansive waterfront
patio. The menu features a raw bar, sashimi, and
simple preparations of Maine lobster and Wagyu
beef, while beverages include cocktails such as a
raspberry-lychee bellini, rhubarb lavender fizz,
and a Campari daiquiri. The interior design from
Yabu Pushelberg features nautical light fixtures,
handpainted murals of seascapes, and jeweltoned seating in luxe fabrics. The venue seats
60 upstairs and 40 downstairs and has a 12-seat

Located in the garment district, 2 Hotel
Hendricks opened in September 2019 with two
rooftop event spaces that offer views of the Empire
State Building. The 176-room hotel has interiors
from L.A.-based Marcello Pozzi with glam touches
like zebra-, giraffe, and tiger-print fabrics. Paloma
restaurant serves Central and South American
cuisine and has a rear garden that can be used for
events. The restaurant caters events at the hotel.

With 360-degree Midtown views from its
perch atop the Aliz Hotel Times Square, the
cocktail lounge Dear Irving on Hudson opened in
January 2019. A new outpost of the concept from
Yves Jadot Restaurant Group, the bar is situated
on the 40th and 41st floors of the hotel and offers
views of the Empire State Building, Statue of
Liberty, and the George Washington Bridge from

full-length windows and terraces. The two floors
reflect different design influences, with 1960s-era
James Bond on the 40th floor and the Art Deco
period on the 41st. Overall, the bar holds about
250 guests: 150 standing on the 40th floor and
100 standing on the 41st floor. Each floor can
be sectioned off for smaller events. Bar director
Meaghan Dorman created two cocktail menus:
Ode to The Empire State features New York-made
spirits, while Tried & True offers favorites such
as a Gibson martini and a boulevardier. The
hotel's ground floor Aliz Room is also available
for events; it seats 80 or holds 100 for receptions.

Hilton's luxury Conrad brand has opened
a second property in New York. Formerly the
London hotel, 3 Conrad New York Midtown
has been renovated with design by Stonehill
Taylor and now features 562 suites, including the
3,000-square-foot Penthouse on 54 with views of
Central Park. One notable perk: In a luxe twist on
room service, guests can order Petrossian caviar
tastings to their suites. The hotel's restaurant,
Dabble, has a private dining room that serves as
event space. Called Plume, it seats 75 or holds 100
for receptions. The hotel opened in October 2019.

The Lookup, a rooftop venue, opened at the
Kixby Hotel in Herald Square in May 2019. The
seasonable, 2,200-square-foot space is divided
into three seating areas anchored by a center bar.
The venue seats 65 outside and 50 inside. (45

Where to Go Skiing and
Snowboarding Indoors
Big Snow American Dream, North
America's first indoor real-snow ski and
snowboard park, opened in December
2019 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The
180,000-square-foot space features an
temperature-controlled "mountain" with
a slope that measures 1,000 feet long and
200 feet wide with a 160-foot vertical drop.
It has one four-seat chair lift as well as two
moving carpet surface lifts and one surface
platter lift. The facility is available for private
groups and offers teambuilding options. It's
located in the long-anticipated American
Dream entertainment and shopping center,
which eventually will include DreamWorks
Water Park, a 300-foot-tall observation
wheel, and a theater. The Nickelodeon
Universe theme park and an ice-skating rink

Catering

In partnership with Matthew Kenney
Cuisine, Marcia Selden Catering recently
launched Naked Fig Catering (matthew
kenneycuisine.com/naked-fig-catering). The
collaboration aims to expand luxury plantbased food within the catering and event
industry with dishes such as the signature
grilled fig flatbread (pictured); mushroom
crostini; kelp summer rolls; king oyster bao
with cashew hoisin, pickled cucumber, and
micro cilantro; kung pao cauliflower; and
