Planners can now reserve vehicles from
Moke Experience (mokexp.com) to offer
guests a fun, eco-friendly way to explore
Coronado Island. The company rents a fleet
of eMokes, which are stylish, open-air, allelectric vehicles that serve as an upgraded
alternative to the golf carts traditionally
used to traverse the island. The company
currently has eight vehicles available to rent

In spring 2020, hometown chef Travis Swikard
plans to open Callie in the East Village. The
6,500-square-foot restaurant will feature a
vegetable-forward menu, a 30-seat cocktail
bar, and a private dining room.
Hyatt will open two adjacent hotels
in Oceanside in late 2020. The Joie de Vivrebranded property will have 161 rooms, a
rooftop hotel and bar, and 3,000 square feet
of retail space. The 226-room Destination
hotel will have a 9,000-square-foot pool
deck, plus 20,000 square feet of event space.

part of cocktails like the Queen Bee Sour or

New event-friendly restaurants offer standout cuisine from around the
world. Here's where to go for...
JapanESE: The RMD Group was slated to open
a new dual-concept restaurant in the Gaslamp
Quarter in February 2020. Huntress, a steakhouse offering one of the largest collections of
Japanese whiskey in California, is downstairs,
while Lumi by Akira Back is a rooftop dining
venue serving modern Japanese fare and sushi
as well as handcrafted cocktails. Michelin-starred
chef Back curates the menus for both spaces.
Lumi's private dining room, the Grand Pacific
Room, is located on the third level; it has space
for 120 seated guests or 200 for receptions. The
Lumi rooftop holds 250 for receptions. (376 Fifth

ItaLIan: Located in the Point Loma community, the Italian restaurant 1 Cesarina opened in
February 2019. The 2,700-square-foot space
highlights its classic French bistro decor with
a green and white color palette and antique
mirrors. The mix of bistro-style tables and booths
seat 98 guests with additional space on its

KoREan: Since May 2019, Westfield Fashion
Valley in Mission Valley has been home to Bibigo

Kitchen. The full-service restaurant specializes
in Korean dishes like beef bulgogi and Korean
barbecue. Warm wood furnishings include counterheight tables and individual tables spread throughout the 1,400-square-foot space. The venue seats 50
guests inside plus an additional 20 on an adjoining

FREnCH: 2 Little Frenchie opened in
Coronado in May 2019 from the Blue Bridge
Hospitality Group. The Parisian-inspired bistro
specializes in classic French cuisine like steak
tartare, croque monsieur, or burgundy snails
with herb garlic butter. At 1,600 square feet, the
restaurant seats 40 guests inside and 20 more on

aMERICan: albaca is a New American
restaurant located within Coronado Island
Marriott Resort & Spa. Open since June 2019,
the restaurant focuses on diet- and vegan-friendly
dishes. The venue includes 2,400 square feet of
indoor space and 2,000 square feet of outdoor
space with room for as many as 54 seated guests

Brunch Time

parakeet Café at Del Mar's One Paseo opened
in April 2019, serving healthy but indulgent foods
like overnight oats and hibiscus lettuce cups. The
1,700-square-foot café seats 30 guests inside plus

1 Morning Glory opened in Little Italy in May
2019. The restaurant by CH Projects centers
around brunch with dishes like Japanese
souffle pancakes and chicken and waffles. The
4,000-square-foot, 107-seat space space has pink

toast Gastrobrunch debuted in February
2019 in Carlsbad. The 3,800-square-foot all-day
brunch restaurant seats 180 in a mix of counter
