ell, NAILBA 32 is history, and we're all back to our
regularly scheduled lives. But what a meeting it
was! Great to see some old friends and make some
new ones. Many thanks are due to the people who
made it such a great event, especially as it related to the NAILBA
Charitable Foundation.
Foundation events surrounding NAILBA 32 provide the brokerage
community ample opportunity to participate and contribute to our
fundraising efforts. As always, the auctions are a popular way for
all of us to get involved. This year, the online Silent Auction raised
$14,268 and the Live Auction raised $38,500. This year's Legal &
General America "buy-a-ticket-and-we'll-buy-one-for-you-too"
program brought in an incredible $44,750-which will be matched
for a total of $89,500. We certainly appreciate the generosity of
those members and corporate partners who donated items, and
especially those who did all that bidding!
One of the highlights of NAILBA 32 was the Friday morning
General Session, where we recapped the Foundation's activities for
the past year. The session included comments from NAILBA Grants
Committee Chair David Long, and a video presentation highlighting
each of the 2013 grant winners. We were pleased to welcome a
representative from Promises2Kids, which was awarded the Col. J.
William Felton Grant this year, and she eloquently expressed their
gratitude for the generous donation.
LIFE Foundation scholarship recipient Shane LaBarge
delivered a heartfelt message when accepting his $15,000
college scholarship from the LIFE Foundation. As part of
NAILBA's ongoing support of the LIFE Foundation, the NAILBA
Charitable Foundation contributed a grant to support deserving
students who submit scholarship applications featuring written
and video essays about the lessons learned from a parent or
guardian's death, and how life insurance would have eased a
difficult situation. See more about the LIFE Foundation's good
work elsewhere in this issue of Perspectives.
NAILBA members continue to make a difference for the
Foundation. Member agencies and industry partners were generous
in 2013 with auction and cash donations, as were NAILBA members
and corporate partners who serve on the Foundation Board of
Directors, the Grants Review Committee, and the Auction Task
Force. Their contributions of time and talent make a significant
impact on the lives of children across the country.
In 2014, the NAILBA Charitable Foundation will continue
reaching out to members to make a difference. More marketing
groups are signing on for their own matching programs to benefit
the Foundation. You can make a difference too, through your
contributions, reaching out to potential grant recipients within
your communities, and promoting the Foundation's efforts. YOU
help us make a difference, and we count on your generosity. Thank
you for your support.
