The NAILBA staff is already hard at work executing your new Strategic Plan. As we work in conjunction with your Board of Directors, and with the newly appointed leaders of several Committees-some created specifically to address the needs identified by the recent membership survey-I will encourage you NOW to watch for some "new stuff" that will be revealed throughout the coming year. Please also make sure to let us know if you like it, don't like it, or if you think it needs more work (and if you say that, be prepared to volunteer to help the responsible committee to make it happen!). For those of you who attended the Opening General Session at NAILBA 33 in November in Hollywood, Florida (you WERE there, weren't you??), you heard 2014 NAILBA Chairman (now Immediate Past Chairman) Barbara Crowley talk about all the things that the NAILBA staff does that she never realized that they did. It occurred to me during this much-appreciated "shout-out" (thanks, Barbara!!), that MANY of you may not know your headquarters staff, or may not fully understand what we all do. Hopefully, this month's column will rectify both of those things. your NAILBA HQ Staff. Kathy Allison is the Director of Membership and the NAILBA Charitable Foundation. Working with the Membership Committee, she is responsible for the recruitment and retention of members; Kathy is the person you talk to if you have questions about becoming a member (or renewing your member- ship). She coordinates the NAILBA membership presentation that you see at your marketing group meetings, and she makes sure that one of your peers is present to give the presentation. Kathy also coordinates the work of the Foundation Board of Directors and their fundraising efforts. The silent and live auctions (that take place at the Annual Meeting each year) are also Kathy's babies-and her pride and joy (workwise). Kathy is also a mom to two boys (well, men, actually-they're 17 and 25). Kathy brings a wealth of association experience and a healthy dose of humor to the NAILBA staff. Susan Haning is probably most familiar to you if you have ever bought a booth, an advertisement (in print or online) or a sponsorship from NAILBA. As Director of Business Development, it is Susan's responsibility to build- and manage-an exhibit hall that is the envy of the industry. NAILBA business development is slightly different from other associations, and probably from what you think it is. Susan is very focused on making sure that our exhibitors and sponsors build THEIR businesses, too-not just ours! She regularly consults with exhibitors and sponsors-including our newer ones-to ensure that they get the most out of the NAILBA exhibit hall and sponsoring and advertising opportunities. With nearly 30 years of experience in this area, I think you can see why our exhibitors, sponsors and advertisers absolutely love her. Ask her about her kitties-but only if you have a ton of time (very much like if you ask me about my dogs). continued on page 42 11
