Why Do We Give?

pending money on others actually makes us happier than spending it on
ourselves, and giving to others
can actually make us healthier. So
how did we do? Our biggest push
for fundraising coincides with the
Annual Meeting, and we weren't
disappointed this year. We were
pleased to recognize the annual
contributions of our three biggest carrier partners: Legal & General, Prudential, and Genworth;
we celebrated the marketing group
matching programs from The Mar-
keting Alliance, LifeMark Partners,
and National Brokerage Agency;
and along with our Silent and Live
Auctions and general contributions received at the Annual Meeting, we got a great start toward
meeting this year's goals.
Don't you feel happier and
healthier already? The Annual Meeting isn't the only time and place to
make a contribution, however. If
your marketing group hasn't organized a matching program, why
not initiate that conversation right
now? Donations received before
June 30 benefit the charities that
will be applying for grants this summer. Now is the perfect time to get
that ball rolling.
People in the "development"
industry-fundraising specialists,
if you will-have long searched for
the answer to the question, "Why
do we give money to charity?" If
we can figure out the "why," maybe we can figure out how to make it
easier and our fundraising efforts
more successful.
Research can help us learn why
people donate, why they don't do it
