nally designed as a condo development, we could only change
the programming a bit. To make it more residential, we reduced
the size of the gym and implemented a game room with foosball,
ping pong and pool tables. We included at-home workout
systems such as Peloton in the gym. Travelers like the self-serve
conveniences of home, which is why we flanked the perimeters of
the rooftop pool platform with stocked coolers. Since home is
also a place to play, we installed hanging chairs opposite a
mirrored wall to create an Instagram moment that still felt residential. Color brings in the feeling of home-and brand. Our
signature purple draws attention to the check-in desk and breaks
down any formal feel.
How people's real lifestyles shaped the design: The two
bedroom/two bath units (there are also some single studios) in
this project can accommodate up to eight people. So, the FF&E
had to be multifunctional-as in need a sofa bed. We were all
well aware that this piece would have to be as comfortable as a
bed rather than the typical model that doesn't provide much
support and isn't exactly a style icon. Our team custom-designed
the sofa bed to reflect our brand's concept and quality standards.
A lot of the usual solutions need rethinking. Take the mirrors.
These spaces have double-wide, full-length mirrors to make it
easier for a large group to get ready at the same time. Obviously,

there has to be more closets, bathroom lighting and layouts that
allow for two people to use the mirror and sinks simultaneously,
a full dining table and seating and circulation patterns that make
the kitchen/dining areas places to gather and not feel squeezed
in. But, in some cases, it's the small touches, such as stocking the
kitchen with luxury home goods.
What's in the pipeline: Currently we're looking toward developing in markets our guests love, including those where we have
home sharing offers. We have data sets that our tech team
collects which helps our real estate team make informed decisions into which markets we will break into next. Large urban
centers are definitely in the forecast. 
How Domio can scale up as a bona fide brand without
diluting its focus on uniqueness: One way is to play with a
central idea that can be expressed in individualized ways. While
there are hints of color in the paint, art and upholstery in Domio
Baronne Street, the core of many of the wallpapers we developed
was black and white. That combination is timeless but versatile.
The thought was that this could be implemented across all
markets, and black and white could act as a building block to
anchor our spaces. All of this comes together in an inspirational
yet attainable aesthetic. We want someone to feel like they are
escaping the ordinary while feeling right at home. £
