The Highlights: A calming, subdued palette
pervades every space, from guestrooms and
public areas to the spa and restaurants. Natural
stone, wood, and chukum stucco are a consistent
pulse throughout each venue. The resort's
spa represents a larger-scale example of this
contextual thinking. Cenotes-deep, hidden
sinkholes in limestone with fresh pools of water
at the bottom, found throughout the Yucatan
jungle-were cherished by the Mayans. The
32,000-square-foot spa is an homage to this
lifeblood of the ancient civilization. Natural
limestone and organic foundations jut out from
seemingly bottomless pools, reflecting the
deepest shades of blue and creating a sense of
peace and revitalization.

The Highlights: Pops of color help to frame the
Standard Hotels' first property in Asia. Guests
step into an airy, intimate lobby bursting with
cool blues traveling from the furniture to accent
walls and windows, and then out onto the
beachy view outdoors. They are then escorted
to one of the resort's 115 overwater and beach
villas, each with its own infinity plunge pool and
private lounge deck with direct access to the
lagoon, ocean, or beach. A glittering disco ball is
strategically perched above the soaking bathtub
in every villa bathroom and bursts of neonbright color are littered throughout the spaces.

The Highlights: Following a four-year renovation
(and Hurricane Irma), this Caribbean resort's design
is inspired by the laidback lifestyle and nautical
qualities of its home in the British Virgin Islands
and celebrates roots dating back to the 1960s. Then
considered a leading example of ecotourism, the
newly constructed resort stays true to the original
property's vision of " earth in balance, " with its
footprint and structures remaining the same as
when they first emerged. At the same time, the
place's essential character is omnipresent through
the inventive use of local materials, distinctive color
schemes, authentic artifacts, and dynamic elements
that bring the external atmosphere indoors.
