Students Raise $2,000 for Cancer Research.
Buffalo State's United Students Government and
Fashion Students Association raised $2,000 for
breast cancer research at Roswell Park Cancer
Institute through a student-run fashion show on
October 13, 2017. The Power of Pink Breast Cancer
Fashion Show featured 60 Buffalo State models
donning the clothing designs of 10 students in a
two-hour show in the Campbell Student Union.
Orange Crushers Named 'Best College Team' at
Polar Plunge. Buffalo State's Team Orange Crushers
won the Best College Team prize for raising $3,474
to	benefit	the	New	York	Special	Olympics	in	the	11th	
annual Polar Plunge in December 2017. Students
from the Exceptional Education Department and
Buffalo State's student chapters of Best Buddies and
the Council for Exceptional Children, along with the
individuals they mentor, have taken part in the event
by "Freezin' for a Reason" every year since it started
in 2007.

EOP Honors Convocation Celebrates Investment
in Education. The 51st annual Arthur O. Eve
Educational Opportunity Program Honors
Convocation-recognizing students who earned a
minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 for the 2017 spring
and/or fall semester-was held on May 10, 2018, in
the Performing Arts Center at Rockwell Hall. This
year's theme was "Imagine, Believe, Achieve:
Invested in Education." Vicki T. Sapp, '94, '97,
director of student engagement, diversity, and
inclusion at Geisinger Commonwealth School of
Medicine, received this year's EOP Distinguished
Alumnus Award.

Students Find 'Connections' in 11th Annual
Runway Show. Student designers in Buffalo State's
Fashion and Textile Technology (FTT) Department
chose "Interconnect" as the theme for the 11th
annual Runway fashion show, held April 21, 2018, in
the Campbell Student Union Social Hall. The show
provides a professional venue for students who are
enrolled in the Apparel Design, Textile Design, and
Fashion Show Production courses to showcase their
talents. The event highlighted the juried work of 25
student designers and included 100 models and
about 100 students working behind the scenes.
Students Apply Engineering Know-How to
Mini Baja Competition. Buffalo State's mechanical
engineering	technology	program	entered	a	fiveperson team in the 2018 SAE International's
Mini Baja Competition, held April 19-22 in
Mechanicsburg, Maryland. Begun in 1976, the
annual competition challenges engineering
students to build and race a single-seat all-terrain
sporting vehicle similar to a dune buggy. One
hundred teams competed this year.
