Carey Named Campus Safety Director of the
Year. Buffalo State's chief of police, Peter Carey, was
named Campus Safety Director of the Year by
Campus Safety magazine in summer 2017. Carey,
who has led the campus University Police
Department for the past 10 years, won in the higher
education category. Judges noted his leadership in
the department's state accreditation process and
his creation of a bike patrol, among other
accomplishments. He was honored at an awards
ceremony on July 13 at the Campus Safety
Conference East in Philadelphia.

Raimondi Receives Lifetime Achievement
Award. Sharon Raimondi, '71, '74, professor
of exceptional education and director of
the doctoral program in special education offered
jointly by Buffalo State and the University at Buffalo,
received the 2017 Lifetime Achievement
Award from the New York State Council for
Exceptional Children in October. This is the highest
honor awarded to an individual by the council.

Faculty and Staff Recognized for Scholarship,
Service. A recognition ceremony to honor faculty
and staff recipients of the 2017 Chancellor's and
President's Awards for Excellence was held on
October 5 in the Performing Arts Center at Rockwell
Hall. The following individuals were recognized:
SUNY Chancellor's Awards-Darlene Sadkowski,
secretary 1 in the Academic Commons (Classified
Service); David Kukulka, professor of engineering
technology, and Thomas Weinberg, professor of
sociology (Scholarship and Creative Activities); Scott
Goodman, chair and professor of chemistry (Faculty
Service); Lori Ann Woods, lecturer in the college
writing program, and Jo Yudess, lecturer in the
Center for Studies in Creativity (Adjunct Teaching).
President's Awards-Bruce Fox, university
photographer, Jon Lines, lecturer of political science,
Amy McMillan, professor of biology, and Rebecca
Tate, lecturer of hospitality and tourism (Service to the
College); Jennifer Hunt, associate professor of
psychology (Advancement of Equity and Campus
Diversity); Hongliang "Jimmy" Xu, professor of
mathematics (Research, Scholarship, and Creativity);
Jude Jayatilleke, senior academic adviser in EOP, and
Holly Quicksey, director of educational pipeline
initiatives in the Center for Excellence in Urban and
Rural Education (Academic Advisement); Daniel
Blum, lecturer of history and social studies education,
Susan Keller-Mathers, associate professor of creativity,
and Angela Patti, associate professor of exceptional
education (Teaching).

Forum Highlights Faculty Research, Creativity.
The 18th annual Faculty and Staff Research and
Creativity Fall Forum, including more than 130
stations showcasing posters, handouts, and minipresentations, was held November 2, 2017, in
Houston Gym. The annual forum is designed to
develop, encourage, and support research and
creativity and to help faculty and staff members
identify common scholarly and creative interests.
The Research and Creativity Council and
the Academic Affairs Office, in conjunction with
Sponsored Programs Operations, host the forum.
