Gordon Named Vice President for Student
Affairs. Buffalo State appointed Timothy W. Gordon
vice president for student affairs in February 2018.
Gordon most recently served as dean of students at
the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, the secondlargest and most diverse campus in the University
of Wisconsin system, with an enrollment of more
than 25,000 students. Gordon earned his B.A. in
interdisciplinary social science (pre-law) in 1992
and his M.A. in higher, adult, and lifelong education
in 1995, both from Michigan State University. He
completed his Ph.D. in educational administration
and foundations at Illinois State University in 2005.
Buffalo State Selected as Inaugural Member
of Higher Education Anchor Mission Initiative.
Buffalo State was one of 31 U.S. colleges and
universities chosen in April 2018 to participate in
the Higher Education Anchor Mission Initiative. The
national collaboration, supported by the Annie E.
Casey Foundation, will develop strategies to help
institutions of higher education strengthen the
economic and social well-being of the communities
they serve. The initiative is a joint project of the
Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities, a
national organization dedicated to connecting urban
universities and their partners, and the Democracy
Collaborative, a national research institute developing
strategies for a more democratic economy.

Partnership with Cuban University Expands
Study-Abroad Options. Buffalo State signed a
memorandum of understanding (MOU) with
Universidad Central "Marta Abreu" de Las Villas
(UCLV) in Cuba in early 2018, paving the way for
future undergraduate and graduate exchange
programs and joint research projects, symposiums,
and workshops. This was the first MOU between
UCLV and a U.S. institution and the first time that
Buffalo State has partnered with Cuba.
