Weinbrenner Shoe Co. is proud of the fact that its heavy-duty footwear is used to protect industrial workers, the nation’s armed forces, firefighters and others who require tougher-than-normal shoes and boots. But, as Vice President of Sales and Marketing Pat Miner explains, the company also takes pride in the fact that its products continue to be American-made. “The one thing about this company is it remains one of the last Americanmade companies,” Miner says. With close to 98 percent of the shoes worn in the United States being made outside of the country – 86 percent from 150 WINTER 2011 China – Weinbrenner Shoe stands apart for this reason alone, but there’s far more to the company than where its shoes are made. Miner says Weinbrenner Shoe also is known for the quality of its products. The company boasts a return rate of less than 1 percent, and it has been awarded by the Department of Defense for the quality and timely production of its military footwear. “Whatever we make, we make it very well,” Miner says. That has a lot to do with the fact that Weinbrenner Shoe’s products are made in the United States, where the company can keep better tabs on the operations on the production floor. Miner says that even in the case of competitors whose products are certified as “Made in the U.S.A.,” many times their products will be made in the Caribbean or merely assembled in the United States from foreign components. Although Weinbrenner Shoe has had to source some components from overseas to remain competitive at all price points, Miner says making the majority of its shoes domestically ensures higher quality.
