The Sturgis, Mich.based company specializes in manufacturing production equipment including tube-bending and tubecutoff machines, mechanical-expanding machines, fin dies and lines, and coil-forming machines. Burr Oak Tool was founded in 1944 and has been producing manufacturing equipment since 1952. Major customers include HVAC producers such as Carrier Corp., Trane Inc. and Lennox as well as Delta Faucet and automotive suppliers. “Our customers are any place where someone needs to make evaporator or condenser coils,” CEO Newell Franks says. “We manufacture and assemble everything that is necessary to make evaporator and condenser coils other than braising and coil testing [machines].” The company exports 50 to 80 percent of the equipment it produces at its Sturgis facility to manufacturers throughout the world. Burr Oak also maintains service facilities in Europe, China and India that offer parts and service from trained personnel within 24 hours of a request, Franks says. “When our customers buy a machine, they want that machine to be in production without any unscheduled down time,” he adds. “I think that almost universally now, when customers need parts and services they want it the next day, which is challenging when you have machines in more than 70 countries.” In addition to producing manufacturing equipment, Burr Oak main- burr oak tool has produced manufacturing equipment since 1952 and has products in 70 countries. 66 manufacturing-today.com WINTER 2011 http://www.manufacturing-today.com
