Seeks Applicants

Industry Input Needed for Grant on
Smoke Impacts on Grapes, Wine
University researchers are requesting input
to help craft a research grant addressing
smoke impacts on grapes and wine. Drs.
Anita Oberholster (UC Davis), Elizabeth
Tomasino (Oregon State University) and
Tom Collins (Washington State University)
will conduct a meeting in Sacramento - the
day before Unified starts - to get feedback on
wildfire smoke-related issues. Attendees can
include viticulturists, winemakers, growers,
owners, sales/marketing, distribution and
other stakeholders.

California Agricultural Leadership Program!
Dozens of CAWG member employees are
alumni of the program, an advanced leadership
development experience for mid-career
agricultural professionals. Class 50, inaugurated
in fall 2019, includes one individual from the
wine industry: Tyler Blackney of Wine Institute
(former CAWG staff member).

The 17-month program (October 2020 to
February 2022) includes about 56 days of formal
program activities. This includes monthly
seminars, as well as national and international
travel seminars. Interested candidates are
encouraged to attend recruitment events and
talk with alumni about the program. Phase one
applications are due by late April.
