Neil Crosby vitals NAME Betty Gregg PositioN Nursing staff development specialist HosPitAl East Tennessee Children's Hospital, Knoxville,Tenn. A s a certified pediatric specialty nurse, Betty Gregg works in perioperative services. She is the cofounder of the hospital's Diversity and Inclusion Council, received the Clinical Excellence Award and two Nursing Leadership Excellence Awards, and is working toward an MSN as a nurse educator. Phyllis Ripley, my first nursing instructor, who taught me that questioning brings growth; for helping me understand, "Water seeks its own level," which meant I would determine my level of success and ability; and for her devotion to helping a young woman stand taller, speak louder and without apology address the issue at hand. BiggEst WEAkNEss: I excel at the Irish gift of gab. HEroEs: My grandmother, who raised 16 children, but never her voice. My father, who worked hard, loved life and taught me what matters most are the people in your life. My mother, who has exemplified courage, strength and resilience. PEt PEEvE: Unmet potential due to complacency FAvoritE cHildHood MEMory: My parents always made time for me. Every evening, we would sit down and just talk. No TV or telephone. We laughed. We cried. We shared stories. One is failing to do my best. The second is that I will forget to tell those I love how important they are to me each and every day.
