SECTION TITLE / ROUNDS making a big world smaller Scale matters when designing for children. Overwhelming spaces are scary. Too many unknowns. As architects, we revisit our inner child to place importance on creating comfort for the young patients and their families. We achieve this with a touch of familiarity; a dose of calming distractions; ample natural light with views to the outdoors; dashes of color, geometric shapes and rounded forms; and a splash of whimsy. Larger spaces are defined into smaller areas through design, materials and shapes. Only when children can comfortably relate to the environments we create have we achieved our goal. Moving forward together to create environments that shape lives. architecture interior architecture master planning space planning 615-329-9445 www.esarch.com CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL S TODAY Spring 2018 11http://www.esarch.com
