VITALS MEET A MEMBER
Raymond Turner, his
wife and kids, and
their new found family
celebrate together.
At the
right time
A connection runs
deeper than expected.
BY ELINE DEBRUIJN WIGGINS
LAST SPRING, Raymond
Turner, a recording
studio producer at Cook
Children's Medical Center
in Fort Worth, Texas, was
interested in learning more
about his ancestry. But
his DNA kit revealed more
than where he was from:
it identified a " familial
match, sibling. " Turner's
wife found and connected
with his newly discovered
sister, Christina Sadberry,
on Facebook. There,
Sadberry saw a photo of
Turner. That's when she
realized she had seen him
that day.
CROSSING PATHS.
Sadberry's had been at
Cook Children's for her
son's appointment saw
Turner in his studio. " That
day was the first time we
saw somebody in there, "
she says. " We've walked
past there a billion times. "
For seven years, Sadberry
and her son Bryson always
walked by the studio when
they went to the hospital
for treatments. They had
never seen Turner, but on
that day, he was having
computer issues, so he
was in the studio for brief
periods. It was in one
of those moments that
Sadberry and her family
passed by. All these years,
the man in the studio was
her half-brother.
A DIVINE APPOINTMENT.
Sadberry started bringing
her son to Cook Children's
in spring 2015 for
treatments, and Turner
joined the hospital that
December. Sadberry is in
the U.S. Air Force and lived
all over the U.S. before
moving to Texas. " There
are no accidents in this
world, " Turner says. " This
was a divine appointment.
Things in heaven and earth
had to move for everything
to move at the right time,
in the right place. "
REUNION. When the
connection was realized,
the hospital arranged for
Tuner and Sadberry to
meet with their families.
Turner wondered how he
would be received and
was anxious. All of that
fell away when Sadberry
walked through the door,
and they hugged with tears
rolling down their faces.
" It felt like I was home, "
he says. " It was like I was
hugging the sister I had
known all my life. "
RECONNECTION. " There
were all these years we
missed, " Turner says, " but
there will be more years
ahead to get to know each
other than the ones-and I
won't even say, lost-which
were preparing us for this
moment and to appreciate
what we have. "
