Raising Your Pup 2 Perfection:

Creating a Brilliant Relationship

Over the next 12 months I will be covering many of the areas that I feel are fundamental in raising your next companion
dog and sports superstar. I want to help
you build the relationship of a lifetime.
So where does it start? What is it all
about? How do you get your puppy from
lovable rogue to championship level,
successful sports dog? It all starts with
relationship, susceptibility to reinforcement, and your dog seeing value in you.

With this in mind I want you to consider
and write down what type of relationship
you have currently with your puppy or
dog? When do you struggle? What areas would you really like to improve?
Or if you are one of the lucky ones to
have only just brought your puppy home
and everything is a clean slate, then ahhhh bliss! Sit back, relax for a very short
period (whilst your pup has a brief nap),
and take this article in.
Creating a brilliant relationship requires
a few things from you:

you have.

Readiness to really focus on what it is you want from the relationship and what it is
you are currently getting/doing.
Willingness to find the time to do at least one short 3-5 minute session per day, every
day. More than one session per day is an absolute bonus. Short sessions are not only
achievable but also massively rewarding!

If the motivation is there from both you and your young bundle of fun, or even your
adult dog, his want for the reinforcement (food, toy, affection, games, or activities) is
established and high, the timing is good, and you set yourself up for success, the rest
is not only easy but also enjoyable to all parties involved!

Willingness to think outside the box.

Life Skills for a Great Relationship
Think about your dog's current life style. Does he have any boundaries and a good
level of self-control? Does he have a basic understanding of any behaviours; for example sit, down, retrieve, or roll over? Does he know his name? Does he have a good
relationship with you and a desire to "work" with you? All of these life skills are worth
giving time and consideration.
