The Tunnel Brake The tunnel brake is a technique in which the handler decelerates just prior to the dog entering a tunnel to cue the dog to turn out of the tunnel toward the handler. This technique can be used on either straight or curved tunnels. It should be used on both types of tunnels whenever the dog cannot see the correct obstacle when exiting the tunnel. Figure 1 (https://youtu.be/RMlW0exk0kw) shows the tunnel brake being done with a straight tunnel. Figure 2 (https://youtu.be/586Ni1AVMg0) shows the dog being cued to exit straight out of a curved tunnel. Compare that to Figure 3 (https://youtu.be/YY8R5LcVvT4) where the tunnel brake technique is being applied. 1 January 16 | Clean Run 41http://www.letsgodesign.net
